Noon Energy and Meta Plan 100 GWh Ultra-LDES for Data Centers

May 7, 2026

Noon Energy and Meta Announce 100 GWh Ultra-Long Duration Energy Storage for Data Centers

Noon Energy has signed a landmark agreement with Meta to reserve up to 1 GW / 100 GWh of ultra-long duration energy storage (ultra-LDES) capacity specifically for Meta's data centers. The partnership will begin with a 25 MW / 2.5 GWh pilot project, scheduled for completion by 2028.

Noon's proprietary technology is based on solid oxide fuel cells, capable of delivering over 100 hours of stored energy. This solves the longstanding challenge of renewable intermittency, acting as the 'missing link' to enable 24/7 reliable green power.

Implications for B2B Buyers and AI Infrastructure

This development is critical for hyperscale data center operators and businesses reliant on AI infrastructure. As energy demand for computing surges, the ability to pair renewable generation with ultra-LDES ensures operational continuity without carbon penalties. For B2B buyers in cloud services, colocation, and high-performance computing, this translates into:

  • Lower risk of power downtime due to renewable variability
  • Improved sustainability scores for supply chain reporting
  • Long-term price stability by reducing reliance on fossil-fuel peakers

According to the announcement, scaling this technology could reshape how data centers procure and store energy, making 100% renewable-powered facilities a practical reality. The 100 GWh target represents a major step toward decarbonizing the digital economy.
